Find Your Ring Size
Three methods to measure accurately at home. And if the fit isn't perfect after delivery, every ring comes with a free lifetime resize.
How to Measure Your Ring Size
The most accurate measurements come from a professional ring sizer — ask Dave to bring one to your consultation. If you're measuring at home before your appointment, here are three methods in order of reliability.
String or Paper Wrap
The most accessible home method. Cut a thin strip of paper or non-stretchy string about 6 inches long.
- Wrap the strip snugly around the base of your finger — not too tight, not too loose. It should slide off with slight resistance.
- Mark where the strip overlaps with a pen.
- Lay the strip flat and measure the length from the end to your mark in millimeters.
- This gives you the circumference of your finger. Find it in the size chart below to identify your ring size.
Measure an Existing Ring
If your partner already owns a ring that fits the correct finger, measuring it is the most reliable home method.
- Select a ring that fits the engagement ring finger (left hand, ring finger for most US wearers).
- Using a ruler, measure the inner diameter of the ring in millimeters — the distance straight across the inside of the band at its widest point.
- Find that measurement in the Diameter (mm) column of the size chart below.
Printable Ring Sizer
Several jewelry industry organizations offer printable ring sizers you can download, print, and use to compare against an existing ring or slip onto a finger.
- Search "printable ring sizer PDF" — the Jewelry Information Center and Blue Nile both offer reliable free versions.
- Print at 100% scale (do not use "fit to page" — this changes proportions).
- Verify print accuracy by checking the 1-inch reference ruler on the sizer sheet before using.
- Place your existing ring over the circles to find your size, or use the strip version to measure your finger directly.

European sizing (diameter in mm) corresponds directly to the Diameter column above. French/Japanese sizes use a different circumference-based system — contact Dave if you need a conversion for an international purchase.
What Affects Fit
Fingers are smallest in the morning when cold and largest in the evening after activity. For the most reliable measurement, measure at the end of the day at room temperature. If you have to choose between two sizes, lean toward the one that matches your typical active state.
Wide bands (5mm+) fit tighter than narrow bands of the same nominal size. If you're designing a wide-band ring or a band with a thick setting, consider going a half size up from your standard measurement. Dave accounts for this during the design process.
Some people have significantly larger knuckles than finger bases — the ring needs to clear the knuckle and still fit snugly at the base. For these cases, Dave may recommend a hinged shank or comfort fit band that slides over the knuckle and sits securely at the base.
Most people's dominant hand is slightly larger than the other. If your partner wears the ring on their dominant hand (some left-handed people prefer this), measure that hand specifically. The difference is usually half a size.
